Moving the Blog

Our space on friendster is maxing out and we need to move the main blog to myspace and show information to last.fm, which is something we’ve newly gotten into because, unlike myspace, it allows us to post shows.

News Update: New Proximity Butterfly Website!! English-Chinese/ August Tour

August 4th, 2006 by proximitybutterfly

Eat your pants people… our super hero friend finally hooked us up with a webpage that blew the one I made out of the water. She came over a hundred times and asked us questions and magically persisted to its end. The Chinese version is right on and she even translated/interpreted four songs into chinese as well, so if you don’t get what I’m trying to say in english, check out the Chinese side of it. The page itself is a bit under construction; not finished. But we needed to get something out before our tour was off. We head out tomorrow for Beijing. We will go by train because in China luxuries like taking planes and rockets across the sky are for people like The Black-Eyed Peas, not for little drifts of ice like ourselves.  But we move nonetheless. We’ll  get to meet a lot of people on the train and play our guitars and hand drums all the way. I’m reading Guerilla Prince now, a biography on Fidel Castro byGeorgie Anne Geyer, Heather is reading Schopenhauer’s Suicide, Suffering and Morality, Duxi is relaxing from a huge taxi beat down he and his friends got the other day, Huangwei will stay in Chengdu and Robert will walk along with us for filling out some sensual jamming. We’ve been writing new songs and trying them out at a few shows recently, finding what things work and what things don’t. We are ready for the tour and ready to express ourselves as intently as we can.

In september we will tune up some unfinished songs and begin recording our second album, hopefully with more of a live feel to them. We’re producing the albums, artwork, poetry and sound all ourselves, so we have to go through that process without huge hands from above cleaning up our stains. Totally appreciate the support in the last year and are looking to shock your panties with more seductive material than before. I really like the new songs and where they are going, and hope you will too. Because our Hemp Bar show was stopped by the police, we want to do a free show in September when we get back to say thanks to all those beautiful people that` keep coming out to support us. Our more recent show at the Indian Bar we thought would be for free and found out that they put a cover charge on it, which, by the way, none of it came to either of the two bands. So mark on your list: Afila-Namaste Indian Bar. Friends don’t leave friends out to dry. We lugged all of our own equipment there, amps drums, microphones, mixing board, cables, lights, everything… and they stiffed us. We learn from mistakes and hope we won’t make another one like that again…

I posted two new things on our BBS. Maywbe you know about them, maybe you don’t: axisofjustice.org and www.climatecrisis.net/ An Inconvenient Truth- different news for different people. A film recommended by Al Gore and all those at Axis of Justice about the climate and what consequences we are and will be facing in the next 10-15 years… I just read an article this morning about a ship off the coats of China that wrecked and dumped 200 tons of sulfuric acid into the water. What are the results of such a catastrophe? and because it isn’t a political issue, but one of human health, we will all be affected by it, much like the seeding of clouds here in China (shooting rockets into the sky charged with chemicals and electrons to make it rain in areas that wouldn’t rnormally get rain. Eventhough this technology dates back to the 50s in America, it had been abandoned for safety purposes; not knowing what repercussions it would have on surrounding nations, hurricane and typhoon patterns, flooding and overall weather predictability. These things will become of great significance eto our immediate future, and unless we move to see what future we may possess, we’re only condemning those tryiong to find solutions.

We’re off tomorrow for a train ride to Beijing and then to Wuhan, Changsha, Nanjing, Shanghai, and Guiyang. The Butterflies with Space Tour schedule is available at:

You can’t run away from yourself…

July 5th, 2006 by proximitybutterfly

A quizzical notion, to run, to hide from a
thing that is always you. Yet people believe this hiding at first like a drag
or indulgence of potions, is an answer; an answer that functions as long as the
supply of potion doesn’t become exhausted.

But imagine. Wonder, what a departure from
one’s own habits- in relation to this “running away”- means. (Because we can’t
run away from ourselves, does this mean that our self-exploration is the
equivalent to a self-abandonment? I hardly think so. A twirl of logic for a
moment lets us in closer on the deceptive fulcrum of these leading
impli9cations of self and running away, giving you the impression that running
away is altogether a negative thing…)

When I must get up in the morning for example,
my condition is: of a series of responsibilities I have to various people,
things, and the many emotions attached to them. I don’t have to get up. No situation will force me out of bed, as a dry
farm forces that farm’s family into hunger. There are currently embrace no conditions or consequences to which I am unable
to survive against. I therefore depend upon my imagination, belief, sense of
responsibility, and most importantly, the source
of my sense. I get up in the morning knowing that from a deep and laboriously
discovered sensation of security and stability, that getting up will inevitably
produce another condition upon which the active
participation
in my own life becomes more morally correct than my passive participation. I know, with
utmost certainty, that this active
condition will arise when I get up and likewise its opposite if I choose not to
get up. Yet nothing forces me. Nothing moves me. Nothing makes me feel as
though my choices are overwhelming. Nothing sends me into paralysis.

Due to arduous experimentation,
self-criticism and meditation I feel as though I am able to view a very broad
scope of my ‘self’, what I do when I am not motivated or inspired or taken by
any feelings of salvation or resolve. The observation of myself has allowed me
also to know how I react to certain situations and more crucially, how my reactions
evolve as I condition myself out of reactions I believed before were lacking
conscience. So, I actually study and learn about my reactions as I am “running
away from myself” and gauge those reactions to mold them into less passive,
more active reactions, resulting in more active habits. As architects must run
from the ground to build their ceilings, so too must a man walk away from his
foundations if he is to construct a self he will not merely imagine himself
away from.

Build… build… build…

The night before last we were in Zhuhai, a city on the coast, at a bar called Live. It’s a huge beach town/metropolis- super huge for a town and not quite a skyscraper haven either… anyway… it was really fun. There were a bunch of cool butterflies that were really nice… We were in the middle of "like snow" when this incredibly drunk master of dancing (not really) jumped up on stage for his axl rose routine. he grabbed the mic and swayed back and forth for a good minute before he totally unplugged the pedals and the sound stopped… I didn’t know who he was, so I didn’t want to get pushy, but he was also smashing the cables and stumbling around over our equipment with an equally unstable beer. .. I think the bar got super pissed and took him outside for a stern talking. The rest of the show went quite well. It was cool to see a bunch of guys in their 40s swirling about their arms and dancing… Looked like the really enjoyed the show…Some of them came up to us talking Russian because Anton was with us (a Russian friend of ours that used to live together with us in Chengdu). They brought about good charms…

(pictures will be coming soon)

…And cheers to Matt and Trevor for coming out and saying howdy doody… our phones all ran out of power, so we have yet to get in contact with them again… Our Chengdu home is welcome to you…

the tour is going so well! our vibes are rockin and we’re still keeping the shirts on our backs… unless we happen to be naked…

speakin of the nude, we all had a great swim in the ocean yesterday and the night before… nice to feel nature alongside nature if you know what I mean…

reggae rasta, books, laughter, rock, peace, punk, conflict and prosperity… We are very very happy these days… looking forward to our upcoming shows: this Friday in Guangzhou at the Bunker Club (once before the Solo Club); Show in Wuhan on the 14th and then off to Shanghai to rock some sh*t out…
